Starting May 1, 2025, Indian Railways has banned waitlisted ticket holders from traveling in Sleeper and AC coaches. This update is aimed at enhancing the comfort and safety of confirmed passengers.
What the Rule Says
- Only confirmed ticket holders can travel in Sleeper and AC classes.
- Waitlisted passengers are not allowed to board these reserved coaches.
- Applies to both online (IRCTC) and counter tickets.
- Violations can lead to fines (up to ₹440) and removal by TTEs.

What Can Waitlisted Passengers Do?
- You may still travel in general (unreserved) coaches.
- Do not attempt to enter Sleeper or AC coaches with a WL ticket.

- Online (IRCTC): Auto-cancelled and refunded if WL.
- Counter Ticket: Cancel at PRS counter for a refund.
