Every year, India observes National Dengue Day on 16th May to spread awareness about dengue fever and promote effective preventive strategies. This initiative is led by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP).
🧬 What is Dengue?
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection caused by the dengue virus (DENV), transmitted primarily by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

- High fever (104°F)
- Severe headaches
- Pain behind the eyes
- Joint and muscle pain
- Skin rash
- Nausea or vomiting
- Minor bleeding (gums, nose)
🛡 Preventive Measures
- Do not allow water to stagnate in containers
- Use mosquito repellents and nets
- Wear full-sleeved clothing
- Clean coolers, pots, and tanks weekly
- Use larvivorous fish in ornamental water bodies
- Participate in community fogging and awareness drives

🏥 Treatment & Care
There is no specific antiviral treatment for dengue. Patients should maintain proper hydration and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen. Hospitalization may be required in severe cases (DHF/DSS).
