What is World Ozone Day?
World Ozone Day is observed every year on September 16 to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987 — a historic international treaty designed to phase out ozone-depleting substances (ODS).
Why is the Ozone Layer Important?
- Shields the Earth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation
- Protects ecosystems, agriculture, and biodiversity
- Prevents skin cancer, cataracts, and other health problems
What’s the Focus in 2025?
- Strengthening global commitment to the Montreal Protocol
- Promoting eco-friendly technologies to replace ODS
- Increasing public awareness, especially among youth
- Supporting international cooperation to protect Earth’s atmosphere
Quick Facts:
